Randomized trial analyzes tire-road noise influenced by temperature in various conditions, indicating significant effects.
The influence of temperature on road vehicle noise cannot be neglected. The purpose of this work was to analyze the influence of the air temperature and road surface temperature on the acoustic characteristics of dense asphalt pavement. By using the coast-by method to measure the maximum sound pressure level of tire–road noise at different temperatures under a speed of 80 km/h, the relationship between the noise level of the selected tires on dense asphalt pavements and temperature was determined. The results show a good linear relationship between the noise of the five experimental tires and temperature. The influence of the air temperature on the noise level varies greatly depending on the specific tires and road surface conditions. An increase in the air temperature leads to a decrease in tire–road noise at a rate of 0.031∼0.160 dB(A)/°C. In addition, analysis of the influence of the air temperature on the mechanism of tire–road noise and acoustic transmission reveals that when the air temperature changes, the decisive roles of the two forms of tire sound sources and noise transmission in the change in tire–road noise depend on the combination of tire and road surfaces.
