Pilot study demonstrates increased emotional awareness and self-care in adolescent gymnasts, suggesting effective strategies for mental health support.
The purpose of this pilot study was to describe the development, implementation, and exploratory evaluation of the Kind-Mind program, a psychoeducational intervention designed to promote positive mental health and self-care practices among adolescent gymnasts. The program consisted of eight group sessions integrating psychoeducation, experiential activities, and reflective discussions delivered within the athletes’ training environment. Preliminary findings indicated modest patterns of change, including increases in prosocial attitudes, alongside qualitative reports of increased emotional awareness and self-reflection. Practical lessons learned from implementing the program and recommendations for sport psychology practitioners working in youth sport environments are discussed.
