Practice framework demonstrates the integration of solution-focused intake techniques in athletes, highlighting practical methods for goal clarification and resource identification.
Solution focused (brief) therapy (SFBT) is a counseling approach that focuses on supporting a client to identify solutions to problems through enhancing their use of existing resources such as strengths, values, and knowledge. Whilst SFBT has gained popularity in contexts such as mental health support and school counseling, its application within sport remains relatively underutilized. This article introduces a Solution-Focused Intake as a way of integrating Solution-Focused tools and techniques into applied sport psychology. Key techniques, with an emphasis on those used to clarify athlete goals and explore past experiences, are discussed, alongside applied case study examples.
