Demonstrates efficient photocatalysis and electrocatalysis in organic molecules, suggesting a new approach to catalyst development.
A bimetallic COF (CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni) has been designed and synthesized to be used as bifunctional catalyst in photocatalysis and electrocatalysis. The hyperconjugated structure and the bimetallic active site enable CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni to absorb light energy and electrical energy to transfer them into chemical energy for corresponding catalysis. As a photocatalyst, CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni can adsorb visible light to active oxygen into reactive oxygen species to degrade small organic aromatic hetercyclic molecules such as RhB, MB, and TC‐HCl. And as the heterogeneous photocatalyst, CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni should be recycled in aqueous solution at least for four cycles with stable structure. As electrocatalyst, CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni has to dope with acetylene black to improve conductivity to achieve highly efficient electrocatalysis. From the results, CoTAPP‐PDB‐COF‐Ni exhibits efficient HER/OER with excellent electrocatalytic activity. In short, we provide a new way for the development of bifunctional catalyst based on COF through the molecular design both in light energy and in electrical energy transfer.
