Structural approach identifies potential inhibitors of FemX to combat Staphylococcus aureus resistance.
FemX (Lipid II: Glycine glycyltransferase) adds the first glycine that forms the interpeptide chain between two muropeptides. Its inhibition weakens cell wall stability, leading to the formation of nonviable cells. Hence, inhibiting FemX might weaken the resistance mechanism against methicillin for Staphylococcus aureus.
