Randomized trial demonstrates non-invasive glucose detection in diabetes, suggesting a new diagnostic method.
This work demonstrated the preparation and characterization of a novel 5,5-Difluoro-10-phenyl-5H-4l4,5l4-dipyrrolo[1,2-c:2',1'-f][1,3,2]diazaborinine (Phenyl-BODIPY) derivative containing a boronic acid group and investigation of its non-invasive/non-enzymatic fluorescence sensor behavior for determination of glucose. The novel Phenyl-BODIPY derivative bearing boronic acid pinacol ester (Compound-7) was synthesized by Sonogashira coupling reaction between Phenyl-BODIPY(Compound-1) and 4-ethynylphenylboronic acid pinacol ester. The target novel compound (BODIPY) Compound-12, which was used as a fluorescence probe for the determination of glucose, was synthesized from Compound-7 by changing the pinacol ester group to the boric acid moieties. The fluorescence intensity of the Compound-12 fluorophore decreased when it interacted with glucose. The sensing performance of this probe towards glucose was evaluated in detail concerning the suitable solvent, linear concentration range, convenient pH, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and selectivity. The LOD value of Compound-12 was found to be 0.20 mM towards glucose. Also, the complex stoichiometry between Compound-12 and glucose molecules was determined by Job’s plot technique.
