Randomized trial enhances autonomous and general flight performance in UAVs, suggesting improved operation techniques.
In this research article the principal purpose is to simultaneously and stochastically enhance both autonomous flight performance (AFP) and general flight performance (GFP) of a changeable wing sweep angle and incidence angle having unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), its autonomous flight control system (AFCS), and its powerplant system. A small UAV is manufactured in Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) UAV laboratory. Its wing sweep angle and incidence angle are able to vary before beginning flight. AFCS variables and wing redesign variables (i.e., sweep and incidence angles) are simultaneously and stochastically redesigned in order to obtain best performance applying an optimization tool called as simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA). Found optimum consequences are also applied as well meanwhile carrying out flight simulations. Simultaneous and stochastical changing wing sweep and incidence angles having UAV and its AFCS redesign methodology is so valuable in order to enhance both of AFP and GFP of an UAV. Substantial upgrade for AFP which is about %33.45 with regard to the traditional UAV which does not own changing wing sweep and incidence angles is obtained after implementation of simultaneous and stochastical redesign concept. In addition, for the GFP it is also obtained significant progress in maximum endurance that is around %35.32. These results cause much less overshoot, settling time and rise time meanwhile tracking of relevant trajectories and also upgraded endurance. Simultaneous and stochastical changing wing sweep and incidence angles having UAV and its AFCS redesign notion donates confident flight, enhanced AFP and GFP, and also useful service interests of UAV operators. Composing a novel notion for enhancing not only AFP but also GFP of an UAV and creating an application of simultaneous and stochastical changing wing sweep and incidence angles having UAV and its AFCS redesign idea are main contributions of this article.
