Discussion uncovers AI's role in enhancing professional development in military education programs, suggesting new learning opportunities.
To prepare for decision‐making under uncertain real‐world conditions, military personnel receive training and development through the military education to enable fast and accurate decisions. Broadly speaking, this educational enterprise consists of undergraduate military education (UME), professional military education (PME), and graduate military education (GME). Each component fosters professional development as a different milestone in a military career. However, these military programs could further enrich professional development through curriculum aligned with adult learning theories and supplemented by artificial intelligence (AI). Moreover, there is ample opportunity to expand existing capabilities through AI programs that could increase individualized and self‐controlled learning opportunities. This discussion combines these core threads of the military education enterprise, adult learning theory through the lens of adaptive expertise, and the potential to integrate AI platforms with the end goal of facilitating professional development across the adult learning lifecycle in military programs.
