Caution should be used in appraising the effects of the increasing CO2 concentration of the atmosphere on photosynthesis and biomass production because the long-term response to high CO2 varies widely among species. Furthermore, the rate of photosynthesis is limited by various internal and environmental factors in addition to the CO2 concentration.
