This case report highlights the potential utility of serial 18F-FDG PET/CTA in evaluating suspected endocarditis following transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
May aid post-TAVI endocarditis evaluation; leaves open prospective validation before clinical adoption.
A 75-year-old woman was referred to our centre for suspicion of endocarditis. Six months earlier, she had undergone an uncomplicated transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI; Medtronic CoreValve Evolut R). For several days prior to admission, she had been experiencing symptoms of drowsiness, malaise, and a spiking fever. Blood cultures were positive for Staphylococcus aureus , and echocardiography revealed a small, slightly oscillating structure within the distal TAVI stent frame, without signs of perivalvular extensions or paravalvular leakage …

Swart et al. (2016) conducted a case report in transcatheter-implanted aortic valve endocarditis (n=1). 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT angiography was evaluated. Serial 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT angiography was utilized to evaluate a 75-year-old woman with Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis 6 months post-TAVI.
