Study records new occurrences of Xiphocolaptes falcirostris in northeastern Brazil, highlighting conservation needs.
Xiphocolaptes falcirostris (Spix, 1824) is a broadly distributed bird species in the Caatinga biome; however, its populations are fragmented and restricted to well-preserved dry forests. From 2012 to 2025, 358 expeditions were carried out in 39 sampling units across areas of Caatinga in northeastern Brazil. Based on this effort, we report 17 new occurrence records of X. falcirostris at a spatiotemporal scale, which expand our understanding of populations within its geographic range. This is especially important for a species that has been threatened for several decades.
