Pilot case demonstrates knowledge acquisition for future assembly line operators using learning factories.
Industry 4.0 training has become a challenge. Many existing programmes are targeted at students and employees rather than at job seekers without prior industry experience. Vocational Education and Training (VET) centres are also a key element in the Industry 4.0 ecosystem, as they play an essential role in delivering training in this field. Learning by doing is a recognized pedagogical approach in training, and the Learning Factory (LF) can serve as a practical tool to support its implementation. How can we use LFs to deliver the skills needed for operators of the future? This study presents a pilot case on the design and implementation of a training scenario developed for future Assembly Line Operators using a LF in a VET centre. The training scenario incorporates various active learning methods, such as challenges. This training is specifically designed for people who have no prior industry experience. This pilot study indicated encouraging trends in knowledge acquisition related to Industry 5.0, while also offering preliminary insights for improving future training activities.
