Explores de-escalation of neoadjuvant treatment in HER2-positive breast cancer, suggesting safer options.
With improved prognosis in early HER2‐positive breast cancer, safely de‐escalating treatment is increasingly investigated to minimize overtreatment. This article focuses on neoadjuvant de‐escalation strategies for HER2‐positive breast cancer. There have been initiatives to shorten the duration of anti‐HER2 therapy or to reduce the use of chemotherapy agents. Predictive or prognostic biomarkers and imaging techniques might help to identify subsets of patients within HER2‐positive cancer with the best chance of responding to treatment and benefiting from de‐escalated treatment.
