Polymer nanocomposites were prepared using surface-functionalized BaTiO3 nanoparticles and ferroelectric polymers. The nanocomposites based on the polymer with a higher permittivity exhibit larger electric displacements under the applied fields, thereby leading to higher energy densities. An energy density of 7 J/cm3 has been achieved in a nanocomposite containing 30 vol % BaTiO3 at 150 MV/m, representing an impressive ∼120% enhancement in comparison with that in the neat polymer.
