Results of measurement and analysis of the dispersion of the linear electro optic coefficient in ZnSe near the fundamental absorption edge are presented. The linear electro optic effect is caused by two different sources: electronic and ionic parts. Spectral behaviors of the two parts in ZnSe are obtained from the measured dispersion of the linear electro optic coefficient. It is shown that the ratio of the electronic part to the ionic one is negative so that the linear electro optic coefficient in ZnSe is not so dependent on the frequency of the incident light even near the fundamental absorption edge. The dispersion of the Raman tensor for allowed LO scattering is also analyzed using the two spectra mentioned above.
