Genome assembly reveals two haplotypes in Sowerby's Beaked Whale, indicating genetic diversity.
<ns5:p> We present a genome assembly from an individual male <ns5:italic>Mesoplodon bidens</ns5:italic> (Sowerby’s Beaked Whale; Chordata; Mammalia; Artiodactyla; Ziphiidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 2 999.08 megabases and 2 732.77 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (82.11%) is scaffolded into 22 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the X and Y sex chromosomes. Most of haplotype 2 (82.89%) is scaffolded into 20 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 16.35 kilobases. The assembly was generated as part of the European Reference Genome Atlas pilot project. </ns5:p>
