This Appreciative Response explores the interaction between Willard's theology and missional theology, emphasizing contextual insights.
All theology is contextual: it is reflection on Scripture that arises out of some context and is addressed to some context. Dallas Willard’s theology arose out of and is addressed to his late 20th century evangelical context and missional theology has arisen out of a global and ecumenical context that has developed over the past century. Willard’s spiritual theology has the power to address, correct, and enrich missional theology today because he was faithful to his own context. In turn, Willard’s spiritual theology and the tradition he has spawned today can be corrected and enriched by the insights of missional theology. It is this lens through which I read and interact with Keas Keasler’s book ‘Kingdom Apprentice’.
