Ongoing study discovers four new fern species in Jalisco, highlighting regional biodiversity.
Jalisco is one of the states with the greatest diversity of fern species in Mexico. As part of an ongoing study on the diversity and distribution of ferns along altitudinal gradients in this state, specimens were collected from localities in the Costa-Sierra Occidental region, leading to the discovery of four species of fern new to Jalisco: Cyathea fulva (Mart. & Gal.) Fée, Macrothelypteris torresiana (Gaudich.) Ching, Parablechnum schiedeanum (Schltdl. ex C.Presl) Gasper and Salino, and Pelazoneuron lanosum (C.Chr.) A.R.Sm. & S.E.Fawc.
