Demonstrates a new method that enhances yield and scalability of TMTM and TPPT production using zinc catalysis and continuous flow.
The zinc‐catalyzed process of simultaneously producing the widely applied rubber accelerator tetramethylthiuram monosulfide (TMTM) and lubricant additive triphenylthiophosphate (TPPT) from inexpensive and nontoxic feedstock tetramethylthiuram disulfide and triphenylphosphite has achieved significant improvements in reaction time, separation feasibility, and yields by using 1,4‐dioxane as the solvent. Compared to prior reports, the enhanced process demonstrates greater upscalability under milder conditions, with elevated isolated yields of both TMTM (90%) and TPPT (92%) through much easier solvent removal and recrystallization. Furthermore, this reaction can now be implemented in a continuous‐flow set‐up.
