Investigates the effects of modifiers on luminescence in europium-doped glasses, suggesting enhanced optical properties.
An innovative series of glass networks with various oxide and fluoride modifiers has been synthesized employing the melt‐quench process. The UV–vis–NIR absorption, photoluminescence, and lifetime results are investigated for recognizing the impact of fluoride and oxide modifiers in the radiative properties of the studied glasses. Electronic 4f−4f transitions of the Eu 3+ ions in the novel glasses were observed through optical absorption measurements. The bonding parameters ( δ ) were assessed through the absorption spectra, and it showcases the dominant covalency among the dopant ions and ligands. The Judd–Ofelt (JO) parameters (Ω 2 , Ω 4 , and Ω 6 ) were computed from the analysis of luminescence spectra. In addition to JO parameters, the luminescence spectra were exploited for the determination of various radiative properties, which include radiative and experimental lifetimes ( τ rad & τ exp ), transition probability ( A ), branching ratio ( β R ), and stimulated emission cross‐section ( σ p E ) for the three prominent emission transitions, 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 , 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 , and 5 D 0 → 7 F 4 . The intense red emission was confirmed employing the CIE 1931 diagram. Additionally, luminescence decay was obtained to fit into a bi‐exponential decay profile, and the incorporation of MgO modifier exhibits enhanced radiative features with 62% quantum efficiency.
