Sequencing reveals resistance and virulence factors in a hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae strain from a patient, suggesting future clinical risks.
We employed a PacBio-Illumina hybrid sequencing approach to sequence the strain KP99 isolated from the sputum of a clinical patient. Classified as ST592, KP99 carries multiple resistance genes (including bla SHV-26 , fosA5 , and oqxA/B ) and harbors a hypervirulent factor system, including the rmpA gene linked to CPS and siderophore-associated genes.
