Key result
Lower ultrafiltration rate goals (1344 vs 1615) were significantly associated with hypertension, which was present in 74.9% of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing routine dialysis.
Why the study?
Hypertension is a common finding and medical risk in ESRD and CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.
What factors are associated with hypertension in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing routine dialysis?

What factors are associated with hypertension in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing routine dialysis?
In patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing routine dialysis, hypertension is highly prevalent and associated with lower ultrafiltration rate goals.
Hypertension common in dialysis patients and linked to lower ultrafiltration goals; cross-sectional data leave open causality and need for prospective trials.
BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition of progressive loss of kidney function that ultimately requires kidney replacement therapy (dialysis or transplantation). When undergoing hemodialysis, there are several medical problems that are at risk of occurring. Hypertension is a common finding in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis.METHODS: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted in January-June 2023 at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar, Indonesia. The subjects in this study were patients diagnosed with CKD who were undergoing dialysis.RESULTS: A total of 230 patients who routinely underwent dialysis and met the criteria participated in the research. One hundred seventy-three (74.9%) of these patients included hypertension. The quick of blood (QB) and dialysis fluid flow rate (QD) values were also found to have no significant differences between groups of hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients. However, ultrafiltration rate goals (UFR) were reported to have a significant influence on the incidence of hypertension in dialysis patients, it was found that the UFR value in hypertensive patients was 1344, lower than that in non-hypertensive patients 1615.CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of hypertension in CKD patients undergoing dialysis was 74.9% and the ultrafiltration rate (UFR) goal was a factor that had a significant influence on the incidence of hypertension in CKD patients undergoing routine dialysis.

HASYIM et al. (2025) conducted a cross-sectional in Chronic kidney disease (CKD) (n=230). Ultrafiltration rate (UFR) was evaluated on Incidence of hypertension. Lower ultrafiltration rate goals (1344 vs 1615) were significantly associated with hypertension, which was present in 74.9% of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing routine dialysis.
