Review summarizes the advances and challenges of 3D printing resins in digital dentistry, indicating future improvements.
Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an important additive manufacturing technology that supports digital dentistry.Dental 3D printing resins offer excellent design flexibility; however, they still have limitations in mechanical and physicochemical properties, biocompatibility, and durability.Their properties are strongly influenced not only by material composition but also by manufacturing processes.Future dental 3D printing materials are expected to evolve into functional materials with antibacterial activity, bioactivity, tissue affinity, and biomimetic properties, in addition to strength and printability. This review summarizes the current status and challenges of dental 3D printing resins and introduces research on antibacterial 3D printing resins and 3D-printed biomimetic artificial teeth.Future perspectives on the integration of artificial intelligence, volumetric additive manufacturing, and multimaterial 3D printing are also discussed.
