Dataset reveals insights on Mo(Cr)-silicide-nitride composite powders, indicating favorable synthesis conditions.
This dataset contains calculation and characterization data related to the synthesis of Mo(Cr)xSiy-Si3N4 composite powders produced via mechanical alloying and reactive vacuum synthesis. The dataset includes results on the preparation of homogeneous Mo-Cr solid solutions, phase evolution during heat treatment, thermodynamic calculations of the Mo-Si3N4 reaction system, and particle size characterization of the synthesized powders. Thermodynamic analysis demonstrated that the Gibbs free energy of MoSi2 formation from the Mo-Si3N4 system becomes negative above 850 °C, indicating favorable reaction conditions at elevated temperatures, with increasing driving force up to 1400 °C. Experimental data validate these thermodynamic predictions and confirm the formation of Mo(Cr)-silicide-nitride composite powders with a volume-weighted median particle size of approximately 0.9 μm. The dataset provides valuable information for researchers developing oxidation-resistant molybdenum silicide-based materials and investigating reactive synthesis routes for advanced refractory composites.
