Systematic literature review examines the role of education in facilitating social change, highlighting its global significance.
Education is one of the influential forces in shaping individuals and transforming societies. It helps in knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, and competencies that enable people to participate actively in social, economic, political, and cultural life. In the rapid globalization, technological advancement, environmental challenges, and changing social structures have further strengthened the role of education as a catalyst for social transformation. The present study aims to examine the relationship between education and social change by synthesizing classical educational theories, contemporary research, and national and international policy perspectives. The study adopted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design. Relevant literature was collected from internationally recognized databases, including Google Scholar, ERIC, Scopus, and Web of Science, along with reports published by UNESCO, the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Government of India. A systematic search strategy using predefined keywords, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and thematic analysis was employed to identify, evaluate, and synthesize the selected literature. Approximately 330 publications were initially identified, and after systematic screening and quality assessment, 90 scholarly sources were included in the final review.
