Metals containing plasma polymerized films have been investigated as media for laser thermal recording. The Te containing plasma polymerized carbon disulfide films (CS 2 –Te) and Bi containing plasma polymerized carbon disulfide films (CS 2 –Bi) are suitable for recording with respect to melting and vaporization, because they have low vaporizing temperature and low heat conductivity. In particular, the CS 2 –Te unprotected antireflection structure showed the highest sensitivity. On the other hand, the CS 2 –Te protective antireflection structure showed a lower sensitivity than the unprotected structure, but is preferable from the viewpoint of its high stability. The Te containing plasma polymerized styrene film is suitable for recording with respect to crystallization, because it shows a large optical change due to crystallization.
