This article summarizes the stresses unique to the healthy brothers and sisters of children with cancer. Research Hidings indicate that recurring periods of separation and changing family relationships, as well as feelings of jealousy, resentment, and guilt are particularly distressing for siblings. Unfortunately, health care revolves around the child with cancer and his or her parents. The program described here was developed to facilitate the healthy siblings' adjustment to the cancer experience, it proved to be an effective approach for providing basic information about cancer and its treatment. More importantly, siblings were able to share their special concerns and feelings in a supportive and therapeutic environment.
