Bitter patterns that appear at various depths below the surface after polishing, both on the bright and the rough sides of an amorphous ribbon of Fe 40 Ni 40 P 14 B 6 are presented. A distribution of the magnetic anisotropy near the surface of the ribbon is suggested.
