A method has been developed for analysing multiple relaxation processes. It is based on the least-squares criterion of fit and automatically calculates relaxation times and strengths so that the sum f of the squares of the deviations of the measured points from the theoretical curve is a minimum. The method may be used with or without restrictions on the relaxation parameters and is designed to give rapid convergence on the minimum. Errors in the relaxation parameters may be estimated by calculating the change in a parameter necessary to produce some chosen change in f .
