Room-temperature oscillation of a laser-diode-pumped cw Nd 3+ -ion-doped LiLuF 4 laser has been achieved. The crystal has no antireflection coaring, but an output power of 8 mW at 1047 nm and a slope efficiency of 9.2 % have been obtained at absorbed pump power of 330 mW at 805 nm.
