Paramagnetic resonance absorption measurements have been made with single crystals of cadmium sulfide containing europium (II). The results can be fitted to the usual spin-Hamiltonian for ⁸S state. The zero field splitting is about 0.4 cm^-1. A comparison of the results with present theories for the crystal field splittings of ⁸S is made.
