The frequency response of a cw double heterostructure laser diode is investigated in the frequency range of 0.2 to 2.0 GHz and related to the optical spectrum. It is shown that inherent laser oscillations affect the spectrum in the same way as if the laser were modulatod externally. Investigations of the subharmonic resonance yields reasonable agreemont with theory.
