Narrow-band interference filters having a bandpass centered at Hα (λ = 6563 A) have been used successfully in photographing lightning discharges in daylight and in the design of an improved lightning flash counter. Preliminary results are presented along with a discussion of design principles and possible further applications of the techniques.
