The salient features of iterative methods commonly encountered in the literature are described, to provide a self-contained résumé of recent developments and to serve as an introduction to detailed study of particular topics. The discussion is organized under two main headings: Stationary methods and their linear acceleration. Gradient methods and kernel polynomials. A tentative evaluation of the various methods is made on the basis of recent experiments.
