A simply designed noble gas ion scattering system enclosed in a Pyrex glass container was constructed. Using this system, we studied sorption characteristics of the residual gases (H2O; CO, … etc.) in the glass system or CO gas on the bare or Pd coated, Ni surface. In the scattering experiments, the contaminated states by the active gases of these surfaces could be known from observation of the scattered He ions peak by oxygen atoms. In the case of gold coated Ni surface the active gas adsorption was depressed and only Au peak was detected.
