A submillisecond‐response liquid crystal for color sequential projection displays

We report a new LC with low viscosity and high clearing point ( T c ~102 °C) for color‐sequential projection displays. Using a 1.95‐µm mixed‐mode twisted nematic cell, the averaged gray‐to‐gray response time is less than 1 ms, which is ~3.6× faster than the current state of the art. Such a mixed‐mode twisted nematic liquid‐crystal‐on‐silicon can be used for near‐to‐eye wearable projection displays and head‐up displays in vehicles.
