Electron Impact Spectroscopy I. The Determination of the Symmetry Species of Molecular Excited States

The Born approximation has been used to obtain an expression for the differential cross section for excitation of a molecular vibronic state by inelastic electron scattering. The shapes of the zero angle excitation functions and small angle angular distributions depend markedly on the symmetry species of the excited electronic state, through the transfer number l 0 , values of which are tabulated.
