A kinetic model demonstrates that the linear momentum and kinetic pressure of the poststenotic jet correlate with the poststenotic width of the ascending aorta in aortic valve stenosis, suggesting pressure release causes the widening.
May explain poststenotic aortic dilatation via jet pressure; hypothesis-generating and requires clinical validation.
The poststenotic jet phenomenon in aortic valve stenosis observed during angiography was studied by a kinetic model. The model allowed to estimate the linear momentum and the kinetic pressure of the jet, which were found to correlate to the poststenotic width of the ascending aorta indicating that the degree of poststenotic widening may be due to the pressure release from the jet.
