This study investigates a number of contingent consistency hypotheses within the context of the attitude model. The effect offelt normative pressure on intentions is found to be contingent (in an interaction sense) on the potencylvisibility of the social context and the individual's needfor approval. However, need for approval does not moderate the relationships between attitude toward the act and intentions or between expectancy-value reactions and attitude toward the act. Similarly, attitude and normative beliefs do not interact to influence intentions.
