Why the study?
Purulent pericarditis is an intractable disease with a poor prognosis, and purulent pericarditis caused by Bacteroides fragilis is rare.
Pericardiotomy via left small thoracotomy can be an effective surgical approach for refractory purulent pericarditis caused by Bacteroides fragilis.
Minimally invasive pericardial window resolved refractory Bacteroides purulent pericarditis; leaves open optimal surgical strategies for anaerobic cases.
