Demonstrates the discovery of a new eclipsing binary candidate, TIC 201250544, highlighting its unique features.
This paper presents the discovery and preliminary light curve analysis of a new eclipsing binary star candidate, designated as TIC 201250544 (Zooniverse Subject 121462345). Utilizing high-cadence photometric data from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) during Sector 102, a definitive periodic dimming was identified via citizen science inspection on the Planet Hunters TESS platform. The light curve exhibits two sharp, symmetric primary and secondary minimums, reaching down to a relative normalized flux level of approximately 0.84 (a relative eclipse depth of ∆F ≈ 0.16), despite notable stellar background noise. The orbital period of the binary system is evaluated to be roughly 12.73 days. A cross-match query on the SIMBAD astronomical database reveals that while the stellar target is registered, its nature as an eclipsing binary system has not been previously cataloged.
