Descriptive survey research shows leadership styles influence employee performance in banks, suggesting focused training for managers.
This study investigates the effect of leadership styles on employee performance in deposit money banks located in Damaturu, Yobe State, Nigeria. Employing a descriptive survey research design, data were collected from 336 employees across fifteen active banks using structured questionnaires. The analysis utilized both descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis via SPSS software version 25 to explore the relationships between leadership styles transformational, transactional, and servant and employee performance. The findings revealed that both transactional and servant leadership styles have a significant positive influence on employee performance, while transformational leadership exhibited an insignificant negative effect. Based on these results, the study recommends that bank managers adopt transactional and servant leadership styles to enhance productivity, provide regular training for managers, clearly communicate expectations, and integrate these leadership approaches to maximize employee performance. The insights from this research contribute to the understanding of effective leadership practices within the banking sector.
