Fast sweep experiments on transient absorption and emission that allow for broad band observation of microwave rotational transitions are described. A theoretical and experimental investigation of the phenomenon has been carried out. The performance of a digital receiver unit used for signal processing is demonstrated by experiments showing resolution and sensitivity for the single sweep mode.
