Indiana registered nurses were surveyed on their participation in continuing education in nursing activities and their reasons for attending or not. Attendance differed with respect to age, marital status, basic educational preparation in nursing, employment position, area of practice, and employment history. Reasons are given far attending related to maintaining currency in nursing practice and reasons given for not attending related to personal inconvenience. Implications were made for program planners in continuing education and for legislation of a continuing education requirement for relicensure.
