Does cardiac surgery alone restore sinus rhythm in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation?
This prospective registry aims to determine whether cardiac surgery alone can restore sinus rhythm in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation over a one-year follow-up.
Evidence on cardiac surgery alone for permanent AF rhythm restoration remains limited; leaves open whether adjunctive ablation improves outcomes.
Objectives: Patients with permanent atrial fibrillation have a high risk for thromboembolic events. Therefore intraoperative ablation therapy has become more and more important. But this is not available for all patients and little is known whether surgery by its own is able to restore sinus rhythm. Therefore we created a registry to follow patients with permanent atrial fibrillation after heart operation.
