Single fatty acid monolayers were deposited onto noble metal single crystals (Cu, Ag, Au).Low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) investigations of these 2D monolayer crystals reveal a structural quality comparable to that of single crystal metal surfaces. The monolayer crystal is aligned with respect to the metal substrate and the positional coherence extends over the whole monolayer coated metal substrate 20 mm in diameter.
