This paper is concerned with the intervention of the family between the acquisition and disposal of income by individuals. After reviewing this topic the author discusses distributive arrangements between generations that are important for the study of interactions between demographic factors and income distribution particularly in the context of the demographic transition. A note on policy implications concludes the paper. (EXCERPT)
