Why the study?
Data on predictors of intraoperative cardiac arrest outcomes are scarce in the literature.
What are the clinical and laboratory predictors of no return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and mortality after intraoperative cardiac arrest during non-cardiac surgery?
Population
158 cases of intraoperative cardiac arrest out of 167,574 anaesthetic procedures
Comparison
Clinical and laboratory predictors of no ROSC, 24 h mortality, and 1-year mortality
Design
Retrospective cohort study
Follow-up
1-year

Clinical and lab predictors may aid ICA risk stratification; hypothesis-generating in Level 3 data and needs prospective validation.
What are the clinical and laboratory predictors of no return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and mortality after intraoperative cardiac arrest during non-cardiac surgery?
An intraoperative cardiac arrest duration greater than 13 minutes strongly predicts failure to achieve ROSC, while a Glasgow Coma Scale score <14 at 24 hours post-arrest strongly predicts 1-year mortality.
