Why the study?
Despite smaller wounds with minimally invasive cardiac surgery, postoperative pain control remains critical to prevent respiratory and cardiovascular complications, chronic pain, and diminished quality of life.
Chest wall fascial plane blocks offer a promising alternative for postoperative pain management in cardiac surgery patients who are often poor candidates for traditional regional anesthesia due to antithrombotic therapy.
Nerve blocks may aid postoperative analgesia after minimally invasive cardiac surgery; leaves open safety and efficacy pending randomized trials.
