Metal ions and water molecules are considered important participants in amyloid β peptide conformational transition, fibril formation, and toxicity. Different hydration changes accompany copper and zinc binding to amyloid β-peptide, with water playing an important role in controlling metal binding to Aβ. Study of these hydration induced changes would provide new insight to decipher the role of different metal ions in Alzheimer's disease.
